Well, i once heard a story from my father that his classmate, who his father owns a very big wooden match company, used to be driven to his school with a Blue Toyota 2000GT. But the problem was, the 2000GT is notoriously unreliable for Toyota standard and sometimes broken down before it's arriving on his school.

He also said the 2000GT is already rusting away in some places, despite only a few years old, and after a few years it's start to look very beaten up. Remember this is somewhere around early 1970's Indonesia, where the road are really terrible.

I don't believe his story. Because come on, 2000GT in Indonesia. It's a way too nice car for this country. Especially in Blue. I mean, most of 2000GT You saw is either white/red/slightly yellow, isn't it?

Until today i met the Cosmo owner and he said "back then, i want to buy a 2000GT that i saw in a car show. It was blue, with black interior, but really expensive, comparable to some prices of Ferrari or a Jaguar at that time. I can't afford it, so i buy the Cosmo instead. And that car i think live in Indonesia until today."

And apparently there's blue 2000GT..

Now, is 2000GT is Unreliable and has some rust problems?

If the answer is yes, then my father were right all along..

Yeah.

He also once said that he and some of his friends sometimes give it a push to that car to make it working again.

Seriously, i would push this car all day.

Good god those things are pretty.

I had the pleasure of seeing one a while back in a museum(lobby). They are tiny but that car was the highlight of the day for me.

Every line on that car is just amazingly perfect.

I go to Japan sometimes, I met a woman who said her father had one and she inherited it. It broke down with few miles on it and she couldn't drive so she left it in the garage, she couldn't part with it then. Toyota came and bought it from her years later because it was all original. She says its the one you see the most displayed by the company now. I thought that was pretty cool. I would still take the 432R version of my 240Z over a 2000GT. The Cosmo is interesting, it might be a nightmare to own now haha.

My father's thought exactly.

When the first day of high school, my father saw that car for the first time, he thought it was a Jaguar E-Type. Then my grandfather told him it was a Toyota, and he can't believe it.

I mean, come on, in Indonesia back then Toyota still sold the god damn Publica.
